Learn about me

Hello my name is Owen Banet and my dad Gary and I Founded Big O Shooting in 2023. I compete in sporting clays and work hard to keep improving my skills and scores. Through shooting I’ve been able to travel, meet great friends, and learn from amazing coaches. Big O Shooting represents my dedication to the sport, the memories I’ve made, and my goal to keep growing and competing at a high level.

What sporting clays means to me

Sporting clays means a lot to me because it is more than just a sport. It has helped me meet new friends and great coaches who have taught me a lot. I have also made many great memories traveling and competing at different shoots. Sporting clays has given me opportunities to learn, improve, and enjoy something I truly love doing.

What is sporting clays

Sporting clays is a shotgun sport where you shoot clay targets that are thrown in different directions to look like birds or rabbits. You move through a course with different stations, and every station has a different type of target. It takes focus, good timing, and practice to hit them. A lot of people call it “golf with a shotgun” because you move around the course and keep score based on how many clays you break.

Bobby Brooks introduced me to sporting clays and got me started in the sport. In 2023, Bobby introduced me to Mr. Bill McGuire, and I took my first lesson with him. Since then, I have taken many lessons with him and had the great opportunity to shoot with and shadow him at several major NSCA events. I have also worked with Gebben Miles, Karen Miles, and Jacque Portier who have helped me a lot and taught me many things that have improved my shooting.

When I first started shooting, I used a Beretta A400 20 gauge. Since then, I’ve gone through several gun changes, but most recently I’ve been shooting a Blaser F3.
